Michael Meara Without a doubt one of the best albums I have had the pleasure of hearing. Emily's voice is so warm and inviting. The music is mixed to perfection, providing a dark and involving melancholic beauty. I cannot recommend this album enough. An essential and astounding work.

mulilu This album feels to me like the perfect, heart cuddling breeze. Also the album sound itself, as an aspect, is a shiny delight.
can't choose a favorite track :)

zionengine Emily Jane White *with* Darkher? How am I supposed to resist that? This is solid dream-folk with hints of Kate Bush. Depending on the day, my favorite track is either "Heresy" or "Battle Call".

I don’t believe in blind divinity Leave the unknown, leave the seeds of mystery to sew All of me, everything Life’s blood raining down on me Leave it a mystery, bathing in the unseen Take me down, take me downtown Show me the war amidst the chants, the cops, the cars Everything that I see Life’s blood raining down on me No blind divinity Justifies this to me Won’t you please light a candle in the name of Juarez They took her name, they took her name In the light of day I don’t believe in blind divinity Leave the unknown, leave the seeds of mystery to sew Leave it a mystery, bathing in the unseen All of me, everything Life’s blood raining down on me Won’t you please light a candle in the name of Poland All rights away, all rights away In the light of day I don’t believe in blind divinity Leave the unknown, leave the seeds of mystery to sew All of me, everything Life’s blood raining down on me No blind divinity Justifies this to me

Crepuscule 04:55
Melancholy unfolds In time, this cross glow I walked through grief spells Drawing from these old wells And the sky stretched out before me And upside down, ignoring The wind, it pointed toward me Away from all abhorring Ivory laden Old growth, shaded Old rose, sharp thorns I hold them in my arms This mourning lives in everyone who has lost someone Aurora in lightning, the living and the dying Blessed is the timing For all of these pryings Fawning, caving, crying The trigger and denying Time won’t stop woes Unearthed, they only show Morphing, through pained blows My love for you only grows Crepuscule, the rising, the living and the trying Aurora in lightning, the giving and the dying Crepuscule, the chasing, all that is aging The melting and unveiling, memory engraving
3.
Heresy 03:42
I crawl against the wind The chafe, the freeze, brethren Housed in holy grim For there’s hunting in this wind For their eyes were watching wrong They drank a cup of poison’s song Heresy Bloodletting, in her I believe For they don’t own your skin I see Eros in the wind Housed in prurient grins For they hurt, they kill, they win You surrender all your arms To become somebody’s charm Cruelty Bloodshedding, in her I still believe
4.
Poisoned 03:52
The way you walk, the way you sing The way you hold on to everything I know it, I know it well Nothing really left to tell Diamond eyes and a studded cross Through the harm drenched fields we walked I held you like a bag of bones Didn’t even feel like your own ‘Cause I saw the pain fall around you To the day, it chained you thin And I saw murder in the background Images they fade, poisoned Cold, hands of men around your throat Emblazed, mark upon the human soul Enchained, blood it runs down to the bone Encaged, forever sorrow’s mark be told ‘Cause I saw the pain fall around you To the day, it chained you thin I saw murder in the background Images they fade, poisoned I held you like a bag of bones Didn’t even feel like your own You tried to walk with me in a straight line That’s when I saw you for the last time
5.
I brace the wind As I walk, broken For I lived in light so dim With those who sang assailing hymns Razor thin, won’t touch me again I’m at the edge of the limb I am too young for a choice made by me Body against the gun, cold hands all around me The light is dim, the disempower shows How do you atone for all you know It happens every day Her will is taken away And so you flee to a different state where it’s legal to operate And so you flee to a different state where it’s legal to operate It happens every day Her will is taken away I am too young for a choice made by me Body against the gun, cold hands all around me And so you flee to a different state where it’s legal to operate And so you flee to a different state where it’s legal to operate
6.
Gonna write a note to the hands above me Gonna ask them on which side do they air And I watch the pendulum swing before me And I hold my breath and vanish into thin air You dwell upon those whom you abandon Eyes be true, you betray those who uphold you Gonna light a flame under the hands above me Gonna see just how much truth do they air And I watch the pendulum swing before me As they cover up all that is there I’ve tried to understand the ways of this land And in truth, America, the lights are dimming on you Gonna write a note to the hands above me Gonna ask them on which side do they air
7.
Mute Swan 04:26
I used to hold your hand in pain A curve, an arc, wander through the haze Who are you now? Can’t leave this terrain Opaque the ground, silent refrain Into the arms, embraced by all of someone Enduring scarred, can’t be undone by someone It’s taken hold of me In everything I see Affliction carries the knife dear Mute swan holds the sound near Blackened dawn holds the light near And I live on into the night here I can’t live and breathe your name For you walk committing pain A harm, a word, withering sane You cut, you starve, wounded the same Into the arms, embraced by all of someone Enduring scarred, can’t be undone by someone It’s taken hold of me In everything I see Affliction carries the knife dear Mute swan holds the sound near Blackened dawn holds the light near And I live on into the night here
8.
Here lies the pain The thorn marks on your hands, they are forever And you hold them alive as you go through touching this life Love winds and wanes, wrapped up in what all is forgotten And the rememberings tell of an unsanctified spell So how do I walk while holding Some kind of words that morph from bereaving Withered is the arch, the moon hangs bleeding I’ve lived the dark energy feeding I can see blame placed upon a vulnerable hollow And the sounding of bells, they ring and they quell Love winds and wanes, wrapped up in what all is forgotten And the rememberings tell of this irreverent spell Circling the dawn, the wake all around you The flora and fauna, incantations surround you It lives in stark liminal space within you Dispirit sparks, they stalk and they hound you
9.
I was born a hollow hearth I would take my own world apart I would give my only love I would give my name in blood Oh dissections, oh of the heart I was taught to take myself apart It lives in you, harbors in the dark Morbid reflection, a dying art And I would give my sight to you And I would give my light to you And I would harness all the power I grew If only I could be loved by you Oh dissections, oh of the heart I was taught to take myself apart It lives in you, harbors in the dark Morbid reflection, a dying art I would take the terror out of your eyes There’s a faintness of a gaslight It lives in you, torments your nights A dissection of all your light
10.
I felt the gaze Of my desire And I held it close Never let it transpire It’s like a sea of skulls They float along blank walls Sepulchral paintings fall At length down my halls Always, in me, always I drew the flame Into the pyre And I burned this gaze In a massive fire For the absence of love It wore me like a glove It held me as its kin What was this world I lived in Always, in me, always I feel everyone I spent the years frozen I feel everyone I spent the years frozen In me, always, in me, always
11.
Battle Call 03:43
So many lives back from the war How do you help those restore Amnesia, what were they there for Embodiment washed up on the shore But what lives inside this scar We never know just what you saw Bones they break, the battle call A tragic fate, you train, you draw You crawled your way back from the war Violence washes the shore Holding the past a present scar Embodiment knew you before But what lives inside this scar We never know what you saw Bones they break, the battle call A tragic fate, you train, you draw But I hold, I hold you now We can make it out somehow Turn to face the battle call The mark it leaves inside us all
